If you are not able to work because of a medical condition, you may be eligible to receive disability benefits from the Social Security Administration. Bishop, Cunningham & Andrews has helped numerous Social Security disability claimants. Regardless of where you are at in the application process, you can trust Bishop, Cunningham & Andrews effectively articulate your claim to the Social Security Administration to help you get the benefits you deserve.

There are two types of Social Security Benefits for individuals not able to work due to a disabling medical condition: Social Security Disability insurance benefits (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income benefits (SSI).

Social Security Disability:

SSD provides benefits to people who have worked and paid enough into the Social Security system making them eligible for benefits based on their past work history. The Social Security Administration bases your eligibility on work credits; the number of work credits needed is determined by the applicants age.

Social Security Income:

SSI benefits are for those people who have not worked long enough to earn sufficient work credits to be eligible for SSD but are medically and financially eligible for assistance. Financial eligibility is determined by the entirety of the household income, including spouses or family members. In order to be determined financially eligible for SSI, one would need to have limited income and assets.

The Social Security Administration does not award benefits easily. The applications are long, often confusing, and most frequently end in denials which have to be appealed. Unfortunately, many deserving people are too often denied. At Bishop, Cunningham & Andrews, we have successfully advocated on behalf of our Social Security Clients, winning appeals, and have won thousands of dollars in back pay on their behalf.
